3Com 3C17226 SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The 3Com 3C17226 is a cascade extender module for the 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 family, used alongside the 3C17224 cascade module to extend stacking beyond a simple two-unit pair. Where a pair of 3C17224 modules links two 4400 switches directly, the 3C17226 extender adds the ports needed to bring a third (and further) unit into the same resilient stack, all still managed under a single IP address.

It fits into the switch’s rear expansion bay and installs without tools, in keeping with the rest of the 4400 expansion module range. This is aimed at sites growing a SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 deployment past an initial two-switch stack, where adding units one at a time as demand grows is preferable to a forklift upgrade to a larger chassis switch. Because the whole stack shares one management IP, the extender preserves the same simplified administration and resilience benefits as the base two-unit cascade, just at larger scale.
