The 3Com 3C17461 is a 1-port 10GBASE-X expansion module for the SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 family, using the XENPAK transceiver form factor. It fits the switch’s expansion slot to add a single 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink, giving a 3870 stack a high-bandwidth path to the core or to another 10-Gigabit-capable switch.

The module itself provides the electrical interface only; a XENPAK transceiver is required separately to determine reach and media, with 3Com offering 10GBASE-LR (single-mode, SC), 10GBASE-ER (single-mode, SC) and 10GBASE-CX4 (Infiniband 4X connector) options to cover short-reach copper through to long-haul fibre links.
