The 3Com 3C17666 is a Switch 4200G 1-Port 10-Gigabit expansion module using an XFP transceiver slot. It fits the rear of a Switch 4200G unit to add a single high-bandwidth 10-Gigabit uplink port, used as a link to a high-speed network backbone or to interconnect peer switches and servers that need more than Gigabit headroom.

It is compatible with the 3Com Switch 4200G 12-Port, 24-Port and 48-Port models, letting a site standardise on the same uplink module across a mixed 4200G deployment. An XFP transceiver, sold separately, is required to support the chosen fibre media; compatible types include 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-CX4 and 10GBASE-ER.
