The 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4200 is a managed Layer 2 stackable Ethernet switch built for wiring-closet access, providing 10/100BASE-TX user ports together with gigabit uplinks for the run back to the core. It supports VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, traffic prioritisation and IGMP snooping, and is managed through a web interface, a console port or SNMP. Members of the 4200 family stack so that a group of switches is administered as one entity, which is how the range was normally deployed on a floor. The 1U rack-mount chassis and internal power supply made it a common choice in office refits where depth in the cabinet was limited. 3Com’s networking business passed to Hewlett Packard in 2010, so this generation is now maintained from refurbished stock.
