The 3Com LZ1V4BTF310A0 Switch 4228G is a 28-port managed Layer 2 Ethernet switch in the 3Com Switch 4200 series, combining 24 ports of 10/100 access with gigabit uplinks including SFP sockets for fibre. It was built for wiring-closet and branch-office duty where VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, QoS prioritisation and IGMP snooping were needed without the cost of a chassis platform. The unit is a 1U rack-mount design and was normally deployed alongside other members of the 4200 family on the same floor. 3Com’s enterprise networking range passed to Hewlett Packard in 2010, so support and spares for this generation now sit largely with the secondary market.
