The 3Com 0101/7LRV202852 is a SuperStack 3 1000BASE-LX module, a Gigabit Ethernet fibre uplink that fits the expansion slot of a SuperStack 3 switch. It adds a gigabit fibre port to a wiring-closet switch, linking it to a core switch or another building without a separate media converter.

1000BASE-LX is the IEEE 802.3z long-wavelength standard, using a 1310 nm laser. On single-mode fibre it reaches up to 5 km, which suits links between buildings on a campus and long riser runs where 1000BASE-SX over multimode would fall short. The module runs full duplex at 1 Gbit/s and needs a matching LX port at the far end of the link.

3Com’s networking range passed to Hewlett Packard in 2010, so modules of this generation now come from refurbished stock.
