The IBM 46C9249 is a genuine IBM 10Gb 850nm SFP+ short-reach optical transceiver. The module transmits at 850nm over multimode fibre using an LC duplex connector, supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet or 10Gb Fibre Channel links up to roughly 300 metres depending on the fibre grade, and is a hot-pluggable, standards-based SFP+ optic compatible with IBM switches, adapters and storage controllers that use the SFP+ cage form factor. As a genuine IBM-branded optic, it carries IBM’s own qualification and firmware compatibility for use in IBM networking and storage gear, which matters where a host device enforces vendor-locked optics.
