The IBM 39J3242 is recorded as an IOP against IBM feature code 2844, with the internal name Clipper. On IBM’s System i and iSeries machines an I/O processor is a card that sits between the system bus and a group of I/O adapters, running the device handling that would otherwise fall to the main processor. Feature 2844 is the PCI IOP used across that generation of machines, and the record also carries feature codes 9744 and 9844, which are the forms in which it was ordered with a system.
