The IBM 44V8581 is a SAS RAID controller: a 380MB-cache, 2-port, PCI Express x8 SAS/SATA RAID adapter, cross-referenced to the equivalent FRU 46K4735 and IBM feature 5805/5903.

The card provides dual-port SAS/SATA connectivity with onboard cache for RAID configurations on Power Systems and System x servers of its generation, letting a system add or replace SAS/SATA storage controllers without a chassis-level upgrade. Genuine spares of this controller are needed when expanding storage connectivity or replacing a failed adapter.
