The IBM 45D9977 is the IBM 5877 12X I/O drawer, a 19-inch, 4U PCIe expansion unit with 10 PCIe hot-plug adapter slots and no internal disk bays, connecting to a host Power6 or Power7 server over a 12X loop with support for up to two drawers per loop. It is the no-disk counterpart to the SFF-DASD-equipped 5802 drawer (45D9978) documented separately in this range, used purely to add PCIe adapter capacity, such as extra Fibre Channel, Ethernet or SAS cards, without adding disk storage. Feature 5877 drawers of this generation remain in active service in established Power Systems estates running AIX, IBM i or Linux. Specifiers should confirm host system compatibility before ordering.
