The IBM 97P4214 is a CEC pass-through serial port riser card, supplied under feature code 7878 for the 9117-570 pSeries (Power5 570/561) central electronics complex. It carries the system’s serial port connections from the processor drawer through to the rear of the frame, giving engineers a physical console or modem attachment point independent of the network, which matters for initial setup and for recovery when the network interfaces themselves are not reachable. It is also recorded under the alternate part numbers 39J0780 and 10N8865, both describing the same physical riser reissued over its service life. Riser cards of this kind are specific to the drawer generation they were built for, so confirm the exact machine type and model before ordering.
