The HP J4131A is a ProCurve Gigabit-SX transceiver, functionally the same 1000Base-SX optical module as the later J4131B revision, for multimode fibre runs up to around 550 metres, fitting the transceiver slots on ProCurve GL and XL-series chassis modules built for this format. It is a short-reach optical module intended for building or campus-level fibre links rather than long-haul spans, commonly used for switch-to-switch uplinks or fibre-attached servers within a single site. This is the correct spare for restoring a failed Gigabit fibre uplink on compatible chassis hardware. Specifiers should confirm their chassis module’s transceiver format and required connector type before ordering.
