The SC duplex connector is an earlier fibre connector style than the LC duplex used on later mini-GBIC transceivers, so it is specific to older chassis modules built for SC-type optics. This is the correct spare for restoring a failed long-reach Gigabit fibre uplink on chassis hardware using SC-connector transceivers.
