The Dell 311-1941 is a 1 GB DDR PC2100 ECC memory module in the 128 x 72 organisation.

The 72-bit width in that organisation is the ECC itself: 64 bits carry data and the extra 8 carry the error correcting code, which lets the memory controller correct single-bit errors on the fly and detect multi-bit ones. That is why server memory is physically wider than desktop memory of the same capacity, and why the two are not interchangeable in either direction on a machine that expects one or the other.

PC2100 runs at 266 MHz effective, and Dell catalogued memory by system part number rather than by module manufacturer, so the same physical module appears under several vendor codes while the Dell number stays constant. That number is what ties the module to the speed, width and registration the machine expects. Mixing modules of different speeds generally works but forces all of them down to the slowest present.
