The Dell 0935223-04 is an EqualLogic 500 GB 7,200 rpm 3.5 inch SATA hard drive supplied in its EqualLogic drive carrier. It is the 500 GB member of the same qualified drive family as the 250 GB 0935219-04.

EqualLogic PS series arrays run their drives as a single RAID set within each member, and the array firmware validates drives against a qualified list rather than accepting any SATA disk of the right size. A bare drive in a generic caddy is therefore not a substitute: the qualified part in its EqualLogic sled is what the array will accept and rebuild onto.

The other constraint is capacity. A replacement smaller than the rest of the set cannot be used, and a larger one is only used to the size of the smallest drive present, so like-for-like replacement is the practical rule.
