The Huawei TN51EF12 (EFI2) is an interface board used in the Huawei OptiX OSN 8800 optical transport platform. Fitted permanently in slot 37 of the OSN8800 subrack alongside its EFI1 counterpart in slot 38, the EFI2 board provides NM_ETH network management Ethernet interfaces that allow the network management system to reach and manage the network element, as well as supporting communication between multiple subracks in a multi-shelf OSN8800 configuration. Together with the AUX (System Auxiliary Interface) board, connected via the backplane, the EFI1/EFI2 pair forms the core management and inter-subrack communication infrastructure for the platform. Huawei’s own technical support documentation notes that WRG_BD_TYPE alarms can be raised against the EFI1/EFI2 boards if an incorrect board type is fitted in these fixed slots, underlining how central they are to correct subrack and multi-shelf operation. Because slots 37 and 38 are dedicated to these boards and cannot be reassigned, a failed EFI2 board typically requires like-for-like replacement to restore management connectivity.
