The NEC X6716A is a confirmed FD-1840 LS ACU (Low-Speed Alarm Control Unit) card for NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform. FOTS/FD-1840 systems are SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links in telecoms networks, and the platform’s card-cage design accepts a range of multiplexer, demultiplexer, interface and alarm-control cards to configure each terminal for its specific role. This card performs its documented function within that platform, and as a genuine NEC part it is built to slot directly into a compatible FD-1840-series chassis without any compatibility concerns. FOTS/FD-1840 equipment remains in service in a number of established transmission networks where the fibre infrastructure has not yet been upgraded to newer platforms, and genuine NEC spares are a routine requirement for maintaining these deployments, restoring redundancy after a card failure, or keeping a tested spare on hand.
