The Nortel DS1404001 is an Accelar 8690SF Routing Switch Module CPU, the original Accelar-branded CPU and switch-fabric module for what later became known as the Passport 8000-series routing switch chassis, Nortel having rebranded the Accelar range as Passport. It provides the central processing, switch-fabric and management functions the chassis’s interface modules rely on, and is required for the chassis to route or switch traffic at all. Confirm the exact chassis model and software release before ordering, since early Accelar-branded modules can have different firmware and memory requirements to the later Passport-branded 8690SF/8691SF modules they were succeeded by. Accelar/Passport 8000-series chassis remain deployed as core and distribution-layer switching platforms in a number of established networks.
