The Cisco WS-X2922-XL-V is a 2-port 100BaseFX uplink module for the Catalyst 2900XL switch family, supporting both ISL and 802.1Q VLAN trunking over fibre. The 2900XL series used modular uplink cards so a fixed-port switch could be fitted with the fibre, copper Gigabit or additional Fast Ethernet uplink its deployment needed without changing the base switch; this module is the fibre-trunking option, letting a 2900XL feed a VLAN trunk back to a distribution switch over multimode fibre rather than copper. It is a common field-replaceable spare where a 2900XL’s original uplink module has failed, been damaged, or where a copper-uplink unit needs converting to fibre for a longer backbone run.
