The Cisco UBR-RFSW-1DS is an RF switch downstream switching module for Cisco’s uBR cable headend router platforms (the uBR7200 and uBR10012 series). Cable headend systems combine multiple downstream RF paths feeding out to the hybrid fibre-coaxial plant, and an RF switch module lets the headend redirect a downstream signal path to a standby line card or combiner in the event of a fault.

This supports redundancy without a full manual re-cabling of the RF plant. This class of module sits in the RF combining/switching layer of the headend rather than on the digital/IP side of the router, and is specific to cable-operator DOCSIS deployments rather than general enterprise networking. uBR-based headend estates that are still in service continue to rely on genuine RF switching hardware of this kind.
