The Cisco WS-C2950G-12-EI is a Catalyst 2950G fixed-configuration switch with 12 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports plus 2 GBIC-based Gigabit Ethernet uplink slots, running the Enhanced Image (EI) IOS feature set. The Enhanced Image adds Layer 2+ features over the Standard Image, including extended access control lists, QoS classification and rate limiting, making the 2950G-12-EI suited to smaller wiring-closet deployments that still need more than basic switching, such as voice VLANs or per-port traffic policing. It is a fixed, non-modular switch (no field-replaceable line cards), and the fitted GBIC uplinks can be swapped independently for SX, LX or copper variants as the uplink medium requires. Genuine spares of this model are a routine requirement for replacing failed units or extending capacity in networks that already standardise on the 2950G-EI.
