Cisco RSP8: Route Switch Processor for 7507/7507-MX/7513/7513-MX/7576 series routers.

The Cisco RSP8 is a Route Switch Processor for the Cisco 7500 series router, compatible with the 7507, 7507-MX, 7513, 7513-MX and 7576 chassis. It was Cisco’s highest-performance RSP generation for the 7500 platform, offering more than a 40 percent switching-performance increase over the preceding RSP4.

It supports Cisco’s High System Availability (HSA) feature, allowing two RSP8s (or an RSP8 paired with an RSP16) in the same chassis for a hot-standby processor configuration. As the central route-processing and switching engine of the router, an RSP failure takes the whole chassis down, which is what makes HSA-capable spares like this important on carrier and enterprise-core deployments still running 7500-series hardware. Genuine units remain the standard way to restore a failed chassis or add a standby processor.
