The Cisco WS-X6K-S1A-MSFC2 is a Catalyst 6000-series Supervisor Engine 1A, fitted with two built-in Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports plus a Policy Feature Card (PFC) and Multilayer Switch Feature Card 2 (MSFC2) daughter cards. Supervisor Engine 1A was Cisco’s mid-generation supervisor for the Catalyst 6000/6500 platform, predating the later integrated-fabric Supervisor Engine 2 and 720 modules.

It relied on the chassis’s shared backplane bus rather than a dedicated crossbar switch fabric. The PFC provided hardware-accelerated Layer 2/3 forwarding and QoS/security policy enforcement, while the MSFC2 added the router-on-a-stick multilayer switching functionality needed for inter-VLAN routing at wire speed. Catalyst 6000/6500 chassis fitted with a supervisor of this generation remain in service on some longer-running enterprise networks.
