The Cisco NM-1E1R is a network module combining one Ethernet port with one Token Ring port, for Cisco’s modular router platforms (2600/3600/3700 series). Token Ring was a competing LAN standard to Ethernet, still present in some legacy mainframe-attached and older enterprise environments well into the 2000s, and this module let a single Cisco router bridge or route between an Ethernet segment and a surviving Token Ring segment during migration periods or in sites that retained Token Ring infrastructure for compatibility reasons.
