It is a Layer 3-capable managed switch aimed at small and medium business networks needing static routing, VLAN segmentation and QoS beyond a purely Layer 2 unmanaged switch, without the cost or complexity of a full enterprise Catalyst switch. Typical roles include converged voice/data/video access switching in offices, retail sites and small campus buildings, powering IP phones and access points directly from the switch’s PoE budget.
