Nortel NTFN48AA (telecommunications transmission and networking portfolio) Telecom System Card / Module

The Nortel NTFN48AA is an E1 function processor for the Passport 6400/7400 wide-area switching platform, the base revision in the NTFN48-prefix family of E1/DS1 tributary cards used across this chassis range. It terminates E1 (2.048Mbit/s) circuits into the shelf’s switching fabric to carry ATM, Frame Relay or TDM tributary traffic, and is functionally interchangeable with the later lettered revisions in the same family (such as the DD and GA variants) that superseded it as Nortel refreshed the card’s firmware and component set over the platform’s production run. A Passport 6400/7400 shelf typically carries several E1 function processors side by side to build up its total tributary port count, and this card is one of the more common variants found in service on nodes that have not been upgraded to a later revision. Passport nodes remain in operation in a number of legacy carrier and enterprise networks handling E1-terminated circuits.
