The Nortel NTK555ABE5 is an OME 6500 Shelf Processor, SP-2 variant, sharing its NTK555-prefixed part numbering with the other shelf processor cards already catalogued from the same OME 6500 platform. The Shelf Processor is the control-plane card for an OME 6500 optical multiservice edge shelf, managing the shelf’s other line, tributary and cross-connect cards, alarm reporting and management-network connectivity; without a working shelf processor a shelf loses centralised control even if its traffic-carrying cards remain functional.
