The Avaya TN2182C is a Tone Clock circuit pack for the Avaya Definity/G3 PBX platform. It generates the call-progress tones (dial tone, ringback, busy) and the system timing reference that other circuit packs in the cabinet synchronise against, making it one of the control-complex packs a Definity cabinet cannot run without rather than an extension or trunk card.

Definity was AT&T’s and then Lucent’s enterprise PBX, carried forward by Avaya as Communication Manager, and it is built from a cabinet of TN-prefixed circuit packs. Each pack does one job: line cards for extensions, trunk cards for outside circuits, tone and announcement packs for the system’s own audio, and control packs for the processor complex. The platform ran for decades with the same physical card format, which is why individual packs are still traded and still fit.
