Brocade NI-X-SF3 /Foundry NetIron XMR (MLXe) Telecom System Card / Module

The Brocade NI-X-SF3 is a switch fabric module for the NetIron chassis routers, the third generation of the fabric card for the platform. The fabric moves traffic between the line cards, so its generation sets the forwarding capacity available to the whole system and it must be matched to the line cards installed. Fabric modules are fitted as a set rather than singly, and a chassis running mixed fabric generations will not perform as intended.

Brocade’s NetIron MLX and XMR routers were carrier and large enterprise IP and MPLS platforms, built as a chassis with management modules, switch fabric modules, line cards and redundant power supplies. Fabric and management modules are matched to the chassis generation, and a chassis will not run correctly with a mismatched combination, so the exact module code matters. The platform passed to Extreme Networks with the 2018 acquisition of Brocade’s data centre business.
