Brocade NI-XMR-MR /Foundry NetIron XMR (MLXe) Telecom System Card / Module

The Brocade NI-XMR-MR is a management module for the NetIron XMR router. The management module runs the routing protocols, holds the configuration and provides the console and out of band management access for the chassis, so it is the part that defines what the router can do rather than how much it can forward. Chassis are often fitted with two for redundancy, and management and fabric modules must be matched to the chassis generation.

Brocade’s NetIron MLX and XMR routers were carrier and large enterprise IP and MPLS platforms, built as a chassis with management modules, switch fabric modules, line cards and redundant power supplies. Fabric and management modules are matched to the chassis generation, and a chassis will not run correctly with a mismatched combination, so the exact module code matters. The platform passed to Extreme Networks with the 2018 acquisition of Brocade’s data centre business.
