The Enhanced Image adds Layer 2+ features over the Standard Image, including extended access control lists, QoS classification and rate limiting, making the 2950G-48-EI suited to wiring-closet deployments that need more than basic switching, such as voice VLANs or per-port traffic policing. It is a fixed, non-modular switch (no field-replaceable line cards), and the fitted GBIC uplinks can be swapped independently for SX, LX or copper variants as the uplink medium requires.
