The Cisco WS-C6509 is a bare 9-slot Catalyst 6509 chassis, supplied without power supplies, fan tray, supervisor or line cards. It is the standard 9-slot enclosure for the Catalyst 6500 modular switching platform, into which a supervisor engine, line cards, fan tray and power supplies are fitted separately to build a complete switch. The 6509 chassis remains one of the most common Catalyst 6500 form factors deployed in enterprise core and distribution roles, and a spare bare chassis is typically sourced either to build a new system from harvested components or to replace a damaged enclosure while reusing existing modules.
