The FORE Systems NM-4/155MMSCC is a 4-port OC-3c/STM-1 ATM network interface module for FORE’s ATM switching platforms, fitted with 155Mbps multimode fibre ports on SC connectors. FORE Systems built some of the earliest commercial ATM switches, and modules like this one populate a switch’s line-card slots to add ATM trunk or edge capacity at the OC-3 rate; the ‘SC’ suffix in this family denotes the multimode SC-connector fibre variant, as distinct from the single-mode variants that share the same NM-4/155 base part number. FORE’s networking business passed to Marconi via GEC in 1999 and its optical transmission assets on to Ericsson in 2006, so genuine spares of this era are now sourced almost entirely from the refurbished market.
