Foundry B8GC: BigIron 8-port 1000BASE-T module.

The Foundry B8GC is a BigIron 8-port 1000BASE-T module. It adds eight copper gigabit ports to a BigIron chassis slot, the option chosen where attached devices were close enough for copper and fibre optics were unnecessary. BigIron chassis were Foundry’s high-density core switches, so modules like this are ordered to extend an existing installation rather than to build a new one.

Kit from Foundry’s range stays in service in networks built out in the 2000s, where the switching is still adequate and replacing it would mean re-cabling. Foundry was acquired by Brocade in 2008.
