The Foundry E1mg-sx is a 1000BASE-SX mini-GBIC optical transceiver for Foundry switches. It carries Gigabit Ethernet at 850 nm over multimode fibre, and is the module Foundry chassis and fixed switches expect in their mini-GBIC slots for short in-building fibre runs. Host platforms of this era check the module’s vendor coding, so a Foundry-coded optic avoids the compatibility problems generic parts can cause.
