The HP J9095A is a System Support Module for the ProCurve Switch 8200zl chassis series, providing the management CPU, control-plane processing and switch fabric that coordinate the chassis’s installed line cards, distinct from the port modules that plug into the chassis’s front-facing bays. The 8200zl is HP’s larger-capacity zl-family chassis switch, built for campus core and aggregation deployments needing more backplane bandwidth than the 5400zl provides, and a chassis of this class typically runs one or two support modules for management and, on the higher-availability configurations, control-plane redundancy. Losing a support module without a redundant second unit fitted takes the whole chassis’s management and routing functions down even though individual line cards may keep switching traffic locally, so this is one of the more critical spare parts in an 8200zl deployment.
