The HP J9728A is a 2920-48G switch. It gives 48 Gigabit access ports in the 2920 chassis without Power over Ethernet, which is the configuration usually chosen for a floor of desktops or for a distribution point that does not power anything. Like the rest of the series it supports stacking and takes a separate uplink module, and its configuration is portable between units of the same model.

HP’s networking range, later rebadged Aruba, covered fixed configuration managed switches from small office access up to stacked campus wiring closets. The 2530, 2620 and 2920 families sit in that access tier, offering Gigabit copper, optional Power over Ethernet and SFP or SFP+ uplinks, with a lifetime warranty policy that put a great many of them into service. They are common, well documented and straightforward to replace like for like.
