The HP J4900C is an HP ProCurve Switch 2626, a 26-port managed switch from the 2600 series offering 24 autosensing 10/100 ports plus 2 dual-personality Gigabit ports, aimed at small-to-mid office deployments needing managed Layer 2 switching with a couple of gigabit uplinks. The 2600 series was one of HP’s longer-running managed ProCurve lines, providing VLANs, basic QoS and port-level management through a web interface at a lower cost than the later 2900/3800 enterprise switches. Its 24+2 port configuration (predominantly Fast Ethernet with limited gigabit uplink) reflects the era it was designed for, when most desktop connections were still 10/100 and gigabit was reserved for uplinks and servers. It remains common in legacy SMB and education-sector networks still running mostly Fast Ethernet to the desktop.
