The Huawei OptiX OSN 3500 is a next-generation optical transmission platform from Huawei’s OptiX OSN family, built around a unified switching architecture that can operate as an MPLS/MPLS-TP-based packet device or a traditional TDM (SDH) device. Rated at STM-64 level, the OSN 3500 provides 15 service slots and supports up to 12 STM-64 interfaces, with ring and linear networking options including 2/4-fibre MSP rings, 1+1 and 1:n linear MSP, SNCP/SNCMP/SNCTP path protection and DNI (ITU-T G.842) SDH network protection. Beyond native SDH transport, the platform supports PDH, Ethernet, RPR, ATM, DDN and SAN services on a shared chassis, making it a flexible metro and backbone transmission node for operators migrating from pure SDH toward packet-based transport while retaining legacy TDM services. Tech-Star (UK-based, shipped worldwide) supplies OSN 3500 subracks and associated boards for network expansion, sparing and decommission replacement projects.
