The Huawei TN11DCU08 is a dispersion compensation unit for the OptiX OSN 6800 and OSN 8800 WDM platforms, sized to compensate approximately 10 km of G.652 standard single-mode fibre.

Chromatic dispersion spreads an optical pulse as it travels, and past a certain distance the pulses blur into one another and the receiver can no longer separate them. A DCU is a passive module carrying dispersion compensating fibre with the opposite sign, inserted in the line to pull the accumulated dispersion back towards zero. It is normally installed between the two stages of a dual-stage optical amplifier, because it introduces loss that the second stage then makes up.

The DCU family is distinguished by the fibre type and the compensation distance, and the unit must be matched to the span it is correcting: fitting the wrong length overcompensates or undercompensates and the link margin suffers either way.
