The IBM 00RY467 is a 1U server appliance, internal designation SE Tren, in the Support Element (SE) family. IBM’s z14 mainframe architecture supplies two Support Element appliances, each a ruggedised 1U x86-based server, mounted at the top of the mainframe’s A-frame as the primary and alternate management consoles for the system. A z14 Support Element runs the low-level hardware management and service functions the Hardware Management Console (HMC) connects to, and the two-appliance pairing gives the mainframe a redundant management path if one SE fails.
