IBM 03N6000 4-slot Ultra320 SCSI disk backplane, CCIN 28D2, for Power5-era pSeries/System i disk cages.
The IBM 03N6000 is a 4-Slot SCSI-Ultra320 disk backplane, CCIN 28D2, providing the hot-swap connector plane for a 4-bay Ultra320 SCSI disk cage inside a Power-based pSeries or System i server. It carries the SCSI bus and hot-swap power signalling to each of the four drive slots, allowing individual disks to be pulled and replaced without powering down the rest of the system, and is the smaller sibling of the 6-pack backplane (IBM part 03N4801) used in the same server family’s larger disk cages. Ultra320 backplanes of this generation are used in IBM’s Power5-era 570, 550 and related pSeries/System i models, where internal SCSI disk remained the standard boot and data storage option before SAS became the default. A backplane fault typically shows as one or more bays failing to detect a drive that tests good elsewhere. Tech-Star supplies the 03N6000 as a refurbished part, UK-based and shipped worldwide.
