The IBM 03N5633 is a 2-port RIO-G (Remote I/O) loop adapter card, part of IBM’s HSL-2/RIO-2 family used to attach external I/O expansion drawers to a Power-based pSeries, System i or System p server. A RIO loop of this kind allows up to six I/O drawers to be daisy-chained off a single server, extending available PCI slots and disk bays well beyond what the base system unit provides, and this dual-port variant supports building or extending a loop with redundant cabling for higher availability. It is compatible across IBM’s Power4/Power5-generation server range that used RIO-G/RIO-2 as the standard drawer-attachment interconnect before later Power systems moved to PCIe-based expansion.
