The IBM 46K6602 is a 2-port Gigabit Ethernet-SX PCIe adapter, feature code 5768, giving Power Systems servers two 1Gb/s full-duplex fibre Ethernet connections over 850nm multimode optical cable, supporting runs up to 550m on 50-micron fibre. It interfaces via a PCIe x4 slot and supports AIX Network Install Manager boot alongside TCP segmentation offload to reduce host CPU load on outgoing traffic. Adapters of this type were a standard fibre-Ethernet option across IBM’s POWER6 and POWER7 mid-range servers before 10Gb fibre adapters became the default for new deployments.
