The IBM 46K6926 is a 6-slot SAS 3.5-inch DASD media backplane with a SATA DVD port, built for the 8308-series Power chassis and closely related to the sibling 46K7120 backplane for the same drive cage. It carries six 3.5-inch hard drive bays plus a SATA connection for the system’s optical drive, consolidating disk and media connectivity onto a single board. Backplanes of this type are swapped when a drive bay, SAS connector or the shared optical port develops a fault independently of the drives or optical unit themselves.
