The IBM 53P3240 is a genuine IBM 70GB (70.56GB) 15,000rpm Ultra3 SCSI hard disk drive, 3.5-inch form factor with an 80-pin SCA connector, used across iSeries system units and expansion towers including the 9405-520, 9406-270, 9406-515 and 9406-520 families. This variant is supplied as a bare drive without its carrier/bracket assembly, so specifiers should confirm they have a compatible carrier already in service or order one separately before fitting it. High-speed 15K SCSI drives of this generation remain in service on a number of established iSeries installations, and a genuine, correctly specified replacement drive is a routine requirement for restoring array redundancy after a drive failure or expanding available storage on systems that have not been migrated to newer disk technology.
