IBM 46K8084 is a genuine IBM DASD (Direct Access Storage Device) cage assembly, part of the same 46K7xxx-46K8xxx POWER6-generation part number block as the system’s other disk-bay and backplane components. A DASD cage physically houses the hot-swap disk drive modules fitted to a server or expansion drawer and carries the wiring and mounting structure that connects them to the system’s disk backplane.

POWER6 systems remain in service across a number of established enterprise data-centre deployments, and a genuine, correctly matched DASD cage is required when restoring or expanding a system’s internal disk capacity after a cage-level fault.
