It provides the SAS connectivity for up to six small-form-factor drive bays plus an integrated media slot, sitting behind the front drive cage and carrying power and data to each installed disk. Power 770 hardware of this generation remains in service across established enterprise deployments, and a genuine spare backplane such as this one is a routine requirement when restoring a chassis to full drive capacity after a backplane fault or when reconfiguring a system’s storage bays.
