The IBM 74Y5453 is an 80A memory voltage regulator module (VRM, revision C6), the power regulation card fitted to the DDR3 memory riser cards used in IBM’s POWER7 servers (including the 5604-series riser fitted to 91xx/8205 systems). It converts the riser’s main DC feed down to the regulated voltage the DDR3 DIMMs themselves require, and sits directly on the memory riser rather than on the main system board. Power7-era hardware remains widely deployed in production environments, and a genuine spare memory VRM such as this one is a routine requirement for restoring a memory riser to full operation after a regulator fault, since a failed VRM can take an otherwise healthy bank of memory offline.
