The IBM 80P6024 is a Service Processor card, CCIN 28D7, also cross-referenced as 80P5316, for IBM’s AS/400 and RS/6000-derived Power Systems of this generation. Rather than being a compute processor, the service processor is a dedicated management controller that runs independently of the main system CPUs, handling functions such as power-on diagnostics, environmental monitoring, remote power control and error logging even when the main partition is powered down.

It plugs into a dedicated slot on the system’s backplane rather than a standard processor card position. Systems from this generation remain in service in a number of established midrange environments, and a genuine service processor card is the standard way to restore system management and remote power control after a card failure.
